This past Sunday, June 3rd, I drove up to Royal Palm Beach on my '63 ragtop Beetle to the 2nd VW Gathering Event organized by Chris Vallone from ClassicVWbugs.com. About 14 VWs showed up, a few less than the first time, but awesome nonetheless! The weather was good, maybe too hot for some, but we had a good time talking about our VWs and having some good pizza at Francesca's Pizza.
The highlight of the event for me was the red Ghia, owned by a South Florida Volkswagen Club member. The 1700cc aircooled engine in this thing was awesome, very clean as you can see in the pictures. I'm seriously thinking about getting a Ghia after seeing this one.
The other car that people liked a lot was the VW based Porsche 356 replica. It was a real beauty, with black paint job, red interior, and tan convertible top and carpet.
My 1963 ragtop Bug was looking bad ass too. The interior looked very clean. Notice the center console basket and deck-lid rack I recently got for it, as well as the must-have fire extinguisher.
The Puerto rican couple that owns the white bug were very nice. Listening to the stories about their beetle and everything they have done to it was very interesting. This white VW bug is boricuan style!
One of the VW buses that showed up was a Camper with an impressive interior. It had custom made rustic style interior, wood paneling, tree branch armrests, stained glass, roman window shades, and lots more. One day I will own a camper like this and travel all across the US.
Its always awesome to meet new VW enthusiasts and their Volkswagens. Hopefully more people will show up next time. I will talk to Chris about spreading the word around more about the event next time, maybe we can set a goal of at least 50 VWs? That would be awesome!
