After a long and inpatient wait the bug finally arrived in Fort Lauderdale today. It came on a flat-bed tow truck at around 2pm. The driver of the truck was as excited as I was, lol... he was like "dude this beetle is awesome" I was like "hurry up and get it off the truck!." The bug was covered in dirt from the long trip across the USA. He started the motor up and backed it off of the flat-bed. Then I finally got to sit on the driver's seat and gave it a try at revving the engine, it felt awesome. It's been a while since I last sat in a beetle, It felt smaller that I remember! But it was awesome. I then spend the rest of the afternoon getting the VIN verified, transferring the title, getting the license plate, and getting the dust off at the self service car wash.
The bug is in really good condition. The interior is nice and clean, the body has almost no dents or visible rust, and the engine runs good. The breaks are also good. It does need a lot of work done though. The steering wheel has to much play, the rear turn signals don't work, the windshield wipers don't work well, the horn doesn't work, it has NO seat belts! I hope I don't get pulled over before I get the chance to install some seat belts. What else... the rubber around the edge of the doors is almost all gone. That's about it for now, I'm sure I'll find more things that need to be fixed.
One of the things I like the most about this beetle is the sunroof! It's perfect since it has no a/c and here in South Florida can get extremely hot during the summer. Later, I drove the bug about 20 miles, part of it on the highway. I went about 60 miles per hour, not sure what the top speed is for this 1200cc engine, but it run good. Tomorrow I will drive it to work. I already got my little toolbox with the essentials that I'll keep in the car and I have to get a couple of replacement parts like generator belt and such, just in case! I'll post more pictures and a little video tomorrow.
